Have spent ages scouring the web for answers but cant seem to get any clear cut ones. Basically my Wife and I are planning on visiting Germany soon and we want to visit Pascha but im hearing that maybe they dont let women inside the building, does anyone know if this is true or not? Also we want want to visit some of the Red Light Districts but I'm hearing the same thing that women are not allowed, does anyone know what deal is with the places at all?
A red light district that bans women would be pretty boring OP: Hadn't heard about the Pascha before either. Apparently it is a brothel. Why would you want to take your wife there is beyond me. Wikipedia says: On Mother's Day , the brothel organised a tour for women; female guests are normally not admitted to the establishment , which does make sense. In any case I would not expect any brothel to be happy about picture snapping tourists.
Perhaps go to Amsterdam De Wallen instead which is more of a tourist destination and not far from Cologne. I am surprised that this is legal under European equal-opportunities legislation. All I know is that the "bars" in the red-light districts of the Philippines display large signs saying that women are not admitted, but this is simply to prevent independent businesswomen from competing with the hostesses employed there: female customers are welcome.
As far as I understand the ladies working there have not been too friendly towards other women passing through the street. Most likely it is legal for women to walk through the street, but the police put up the sign to protect visiting women and to ensure "Ordnung". The signs are attached to a private club and they can restrict entry in any way they like. Anybody can walk down a public street but whether or not a woman would want to is a very different question.
