BENGALURU: Hopeful property owners and builders are now desperately waiting for the State Government’s decision to convert B Khata holders to A Khata. For the uninitiated, B Khatas are awarded to properties which violate building and property rules and government regulations, or simply have pending dues in the form of property tax, and must be converted to A Khata.

Statistics say that there are 18,43,895 khata holders in Bengaluru. Out of this number, 6,16,978 have B Khatas.

Among the eight zones, Mahadevapura has the highest (1,81,249) B Khata holders followed by Bommanahalli (1,32,582), RR Nagar (1,11,989). The least number of B Khata holders are in the west zone (14,877).

Sources said that the government plans to make an announcement before the BBMP elections as this is one of the most important poll issues. Many former mayors had earlier submitted a letter to the top officials, asking them to clear all hurdles required for converting B Khata properties to A.

Many ex-corporators have also been demanding for a policy to allow conversion of B Khata property as this helps BBMP generate revenue. The move will also cut down on rampant corruption.

Although the BBMP had made an attempt in the past for easy Khata conversion, the proposal was stuck as the matter was being heard in the Supreme Court along with the Akrama Sakrama Scheme.
