GURUGRAM: A team led by Gurugram’s deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav on Wednesday carried out an inspection of the flats in towers E and F of Chintels Paradiso to examine the seriousness of fresh cracks in their balconies and the extent of damage in the buildings.

After the visit, the DC said a decision on these two towers will be taken only after the IIT-D submits its report on the structural safety of the Sector 109 society’s tower D, where a vertical collapse of five living room floors left two residents dead earlier this year.

Yadav’s visit comes a day after a team from the town and country planning department (DTCP) submitted a report on towers E and F following a spot visit on Monday night.

“I interacted with the residents and visited both the towers to see the cracks and other stressed areas of the buildings. The cracks are visible and the balconies are deflected, we have also taken their photos. There are faults in both the towers,” he said.

Yadav was accompanied by additional deputy commissioner VK Meena, who is also the head of committee constituted in February to probe the tower D accident, district town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia and senior PWD officials.

In his report, Madholia said that one of the balconies on the fourth floor of Tower E was sagged. “Many other balconies in both the towers are in a dilapidated condition. Immediate measures to strengthen the balconies were undertaken by the developer after the DTCP team issued directions to that effect.”

Meanwhile, the developer cited funds crunch for relocation of families living in the affected towers and sought the lifting of ban on the sale and purchase of its properties.

“Cash flow has stopped since the ban was imposed. The company has been managing the expenses on its own,” a spokesperson said.
