CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation (MC) has slapped a property tax notice of Rs 92.85 lakh on five-star hotel James Plaza in Sector 17, giving time till October 31 to pay the arrears or face sealing.
“According to our records, James Plaza has to deposit arrears of Rs 92.85 lakh. After making the required calculations, we have sent a notice to pay the money. If they fail to pay up, they will face strict action, which can even go up to the sealing of the property,” a senior official of the MC said.
On the other hand, fivestar hotel, JW Marriot, Sector 35, has paid property tax of Rs 1.31crore, including arrears.
“The money has not come easily. We had to send an attachment notice to the hotel. A majority of the arrears have come from commercial properties. We are making efforts to ensure defaulters pay up,” an official said.
“Some commercial property tax-related cases are pending in different courts. Once they are cleared, the MC will be able to get property tax almost from all the major commercial properties of the city,” he added.
